Larch Class

"Pupils have forged friendship groups across ethnic, religious, social and cultural boundaries, and this shows a remarkable level of respect and tolerance towards each other".

Ofsted Inspection Report, 2015

Welcome to Miss Smales' class

We have another exciting term ahead as we prepare an invasion in Year 5, Through our topic of 'Invaders', we will explore the world of Invaders, including Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We will learn how they travelled to new places, how they made this new land their home and the impact they have on us today. Larch class will immerse themselves in the stories and poems of the time, including the epic tale of Beowulf!. We will study their language, food, art and of course their famous battles! Through our research, and through the exploration of suitable materials in Science, we hope to learn how to survive on our own new planet of 'Larch World'.

Useful Information:

Larch Class will be taught by Miss Helen Smales.

The TA supporting Larch Class in the mornings is Mrs Gill Nelis.

PE sessions for Larch Class during terms 3 and 4 are on Tuesday afternoons. PE kits need to be in school all week in case of changes or additional opportunities. Year 5 will be swimming on Wednesday mornings until Easter.

Homework is given out on a Wednesday and is due back in by the following Monday. Homework is given for Maths and English/Topic every week.

Spellings will also be given out on a Wednesday and a test will take place on the following Tuesday.

Children also need to practice their multiplication tables regularly and these will be assessed through certain mental maths sessions.

Reading is of paramount importance so children should be reading at least 5 times a week. They have a reading record in which to record any reading they do which should be brought into school every day.
