Meet the teacher - Beech

Well done to you all for settling in so well after Lockdown. We are finding our feet once more and really beginning to showcase some of our skills and knowledge.

We have got stuck in with our first topic 'Space' and are looking forward to exploring that further.

P.E.

Our P.E. days are Monday and Thursday. Pupils must bring in P.E. kit on these days and it is advisable that this includes warmer clothing as the weather is turning and we will be outside at least once a week.

Please be reminded that earrings should not be worn on P.E. days. If it not possible to remove earrings, then tape needs to be provided from home.

Home Learning Expectations

In Year 5 it is expected that children read every day. If your child is a competent reader, you do not have to read with them every time. However, we do ask that you listen to them read 3 times a week and sign the Reading Record accordingly. If children are reading the school reading scheme books they are also very welcome to read their own books as well. Please encourage your child to record these in the Reading Records.

We suggest 10 minutes a day of times tables practice and recommend using websites such as www.topmarks.co.uk to help make it more interesting for the children. Year 5 pupils aim to know all the times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of the year. ideally they should know the answer within 3 seconds and this includes the inverse e.g. division/how many X in Y

Spellings can be found in the attached document alongside some strategies to make it more engaging. Your child should know which level they are working at as we have assessed since the start of Year 5 and assigned spellings that they need to work on.
