Ministry of Micklands

The Ministry of Micklands have been busy making plans for the year ahead and some of the committees have already started on their projects. Here is an update from each team:

Environment Committee

At the beginning of term, we launched a mural design competition and will be announcing the winners soon. We are working in partnership with a local company who have volunteered to come in and do a project at school so they will be painting it for us. We are continuing to collect pens and pencils for recycling with TerraCycle - please feel free to bring in contributions from home or work and we can help them to be turned into watering cans and other helpful items. Crisp packets are an item we are planning to start collecting for recycling too. We hope we can save a lot from going to landfill. We are looking into lots of projects to work on to help develop the ecology and environment around Micklands and further afield.

Community Committee

We want to support lots of charities but don't want to ask you all for too much money so we have been thinking of alternative ways that we can 'do our bit' for the local and global community. Children in Need will be celebrated across Micklands but we will not be collecting money for it on the day as a portion of our Mini Marathon money will be going to this charity. It is also the school disco that day so we want you to support our PTA with non-uniform contributions and tickets for their event. We will be repeating the One More Card Campaign this Christmas so if you know of someone who may not receive many cards this year please let us know so that we can spread some festive cheer to those in our local community. The ShoeBox campaign is something we are hoping to support this year so watch this space for more information. We would also like to collect donations of thick adult socks throughout the winter to give to the local homeless charity Launchpad. Future plans include a community celebration marking the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Health and Wellbeing

We recently did an assembly and presented to the school what should be packed in our lunch boxes to keep us healthy. Healthy snacks include items such as fruit and vegetables, rice cakes and cereal bars. Chocolate bars are not a healthy snack and should not to be brought into school. The Daily Mile is going to be getting a bit of a facelift with help from our committee - we intend to add activities and make it more enjoyable and purposeful. Our future plans include improving play times and having a Feel-Good Day across the school where we consider what can help us to be healthier and happier.
