Our Respect Rainbow

Micklands Primary School > Our School > Our Respect Rainbow

All of us at Micklands should show respect in everything we do. By doing this we can all be happy, healthy and achieve well.

Our Respect Rainbow helps us to learn about how to do this in school and in the wider community.

There are seven strands to our rainbow:

Rights

Everyone has rights, these are important and should be protected. We know about our rights through learning about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We can show we understand this by standing up for the rights of others.

Everyone

Everyone should be treated with respect, regardless of their age, ability, home situation, gender (and how they identify), faith, race and/or who they choose to love. We can show we understand this by standing up for anyone that is discriminated against and never making harmful comments to anyone.

Self

We should respect ourselves by trying our best, keeping healthy and asking for help when we need it. We can show we understand this by putting effort into our work and our appearance, and being brave enough to ask for help if we need it in any area of our lives.

Property

My own and other people’s property is important and should be looked after and appreciated. We can show we understand this by looking after the school equipment and keeping it well-organised and tidy.

Environment

We have an important role in improving the school environment. We can make a positive difference in local and global environment issues. We can show we understand this by helping to keep the school clean and standing up to those that drop litter. We can take part in events to raise awareness of local/global environmental issues.

Communication

The way we speak to people is one of the most important ways that we can show respect. We can show we understand this by saying kind things to people. Encourage them, particularly if they are going through a hard time. If we are upset about something, we can communicate this in a calm way.

Thoughtfulness

Our actions can help people and show that we have respect for them. We can show we understand this by offering to do things that will help others. We can try to put the needs of others first.
